A care home in Poole is holding a free event to provide information about preventing falls among older people.
On Wednesday 29th November, from 2pm-4pm, The Potteries care home on York Road is welcoming an expert to give advice to the community. Shiona Balfour and colleagues from Bournemouth & Poole Community Therapy Team will be visiting the home to offer guidance and information on preventing falls and maintaining independence.
As well as discussing the common causes of slips and trips, Shiona will also be on hand to provide expert advice on how to create safer environments for older people, as well as discussing the activities and exercises that relatives can implement to help improve their loved ones’ balance.
After the event there will be a Q&A session, and those who attend will also have the opportunity to meet the team at The Potteries and take a tour of the care home.
The Potteries home manager, Zita Turner, said: “Here at The Potteries, we seek to provide in-depth advice to people in the local community on topics relating to our work. Falls prevention is very important to the team, and to the wellbeing of the residents, as accidental falls can occasionally lead to further health issues.
“It is imperative we create a safe environment for older people in the community, and ensure that family and friends have the correct information to prevent accidents, so we are looking forward to welcoming local people to The Potteries for what promises to be another interesting and inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”
The Potteries has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite care.
