Leading Dorset and Somerset law firm Humphries Kirk is sponsoring this year’s Dorchester Literary Festival launch event on Tuesday September 26 at Duke’s Fine Art Auctioneers.
Humphries Kirk is sponsoring the Dorchester Literary Festival launch event for a third year in a row. The launch will kick start a series of speaker events taking place from October 18 to 22 in Dorchester.
The festival is a celebration of the written word and gives festival-goers the opportunity to hear stimulating talks and discussions by leading authors in a relaxed setting. Dorchester is rich in literary associations, having inspired British writers including T. E. Lawrence, Ian McEwan and Thomas Hardy.
Humphries Kirk is proud to be sponsoring the launch event as well as headline events with authors A. N. Wilson and Val McDermid. Other authors at this year’s festival include Tracy Chevalier, Katie Hickman and Christopher Biggins.
A. N. Wilson’s talk takes place on Friday October 20 at 4pm at Duke’s Galleries and will explore whether Charles Darwin was a creator of myth, in a talk entitled ‘Charles Darwin Victorian Mythmaker.’
Humphries Kirk is also sponsoring Val McDermid’s talk, which takes place on Saturday October 21 at 8pm at the Dorford Centre. As one of the biggest names in crime writing, Val will be interviewed by another top crime fiction writer, Minette Walters. Val will be discussing ‘Insidious Intent,’ the next novel in the Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series.
Katharine Jones, partner at Humphries Kirk, said: “The Dorchester Literary Festival just gets better and better and it’s an event in the calendar that the firm always looks forward to.
“Humphries Kirk has been situated in the county town for many years and so we are delighted to be involved with the festival once again. This event really helps further enhance the cultural life of our local community.”
Janet Gleeson, director of the Dorchester Literary Festival, added: “We are honoured that Humphries Kirk is providing such generous support to the festival, which has now become a firmly established event in Dorchester’s cultural calendar and brings enjoyment to so many people.”
Humphries Kirk has offices in Bournemouth, Parkstone, Poole, Swanage, Wareham, Dorchester, Crewkerne as well as London and has an international network of lawyers.
